HIV-1 continues to be a major public health problem globally and particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. The expression of CCR5 co-receptors and its influence on HIV-1 entry into host cells and tissues has been studied mostly in developed countries outside Africa. The impact of HAART on the expression of CCR5 co-receptor on host cells is little studied in Sub-Saharan Africa. This study focused on expression of CCR5 co-receptor on circulating CD4+ T cells in HIV-1 patients on HAART.

Background: Low back pain is a common musculoskeletal problem1. It is the leading cause of disability. Low back pain among office workers have become the subject of growing concern with the expanding use of Visual Display Terminals (VDTs) (Shahab, 2012). Objective: To find out the comparison of active knee extension test and straight leg raise angle in visual display terminal operators with or without low back pain. Study Design: Non-experimental design and observational type. Procedure: 101 subjects were selected based upon the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria.

Prevalence of leiomyoma in patients with abnormal uterine bleeding

Women with Abnormal Uterine Bleeding is the most commonest presenting symptom for which they report to gynaecology out-patient department. This is more commonly associated with leiomyoma. Objective of the study was to find out the prevalence of Leiomyoma in patients presenting with Abnormal Uterine Bleeding in reproductive and perimenopause age group. A retrospective study was conducted from june 2016 to june 2017. Records of 128 patients who presented with Abnormal Uterine Bleeding were collected from Medical record room and were analysed .

Food consumption, quality of life, sociodemographic characteristics and work of teachers of a city in São Paulo, Brazil

A cross-sectional study with the objective of verifying the quality of life, food consumption, sociodemographic and work characteristics of teachers of the municipal basic education network of a city in São Paulo, Brazil. In this research, 419 teachers participated, 94% were female, 59% were overweight and 70% needed to improve their living habits. There were no significant differences between the categories of feeding score in relation to age, teaching time, weekly workload and daily shifts of classes.

Hiv/aids awareness of individuals above fifty years: health education

With the increase in the number of elderly people infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), there is a clear need to create new strategies and plan effective actions aimed at controlling the epidemic, using health education. This study was performed to develop an educational intervention on HIV/AIDS for a group of elderly users of a basic health unit. The sample comprised people aged over 50 years who were users of the Unified Health System. Interviews were conducted with 14 elderly people aged 52–73 years.

Dynamic processes of students learning on initial teacher training

The debate about the importance of learning through participation in the initial teacher training is relevant in dynamic processes of students learning, that happens according to the action in the context, the culture and social interaction. We intend to emphasize how important is the experience in personal and professional training of students learning in Action-Research (A-R). Through a qualitative study it was possible to interpret the learning processes to develop an important trajectory regarding the initial teacher training.

Precooling agents: A boon to local anesthetics

Early childhood experiences with painful injections may lead to anxiety and fear. The fear of pain attributed to anesthetic needle injections is cited as an obstacle in providing appropriate dental care. These reactions need not develop if steps are taken to reduce the pain associated with injections. This review presents recent findings regarding different treatment strategies such as applying pre-cooling agents, topical anesthetics, vibrating applying pressure to the injection site and using a mechanical delivery system.

Assessment of frailty and related factors among the elderly cared at a reference center

This study aims to assess frailty and to identify the risk factors among the elderly cared at a reference center. It is a descriptive, exploratory study with a quantitative approach, carried out with 38 elderly cared at the Full Care Center for the Elderly Health, located in São Luís, the capital city of Maranhão, Brazil. One built the instrument for data collection with social-demographic data (gender, age, marital status, income and education). Brazilian validated version of Edmonton Frail Scale for the assessment of frailty.

Lifestyle and quality of life in users of an odontological clinic of são paulo

Objective: To investigate the profile of users of a dental clinic associated to lifestyle and quality of life related to health. Method: Cross-sectional observational study with participants of both sexes. Quality of Life (QoL) and Lifestyle (EV) evaluation, socioeconomic assessment and Caries, Lost and Sealed indexes were used. Results: There were 68 participants with average age of 47.16 ± 12.78. The distribution according to sex was balanced, with a predominance of social classes B2 (29.4%) and C1 (32.4%).
